The Belfast Trust Clinical Biochemistry Department is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic individual to join our UKAS accredited department of laboratory medicine to become a Specialist Biomedical Scientist. This is an exciting opportunity to broaden your experience - working in a modern and well-equipped laboratory, providing an extensive repertoire of investigations. The Clinical Biochemistry team is a diverse group of highly motivated scientists, working together with medical teams to further healthcare and provide the best service possible for patients. The Clinical Biochemistry laboratory in Belfast is the largest in the region and provides a significant amount of specialist testing. This provides our scientists with the opportunity to work more closely with medical services as they continually adjust the service to support ever-changing developments in patient care. Our service is always expanding and looking to make improvements and we are committed to our staff being the best they can be. Postholder will be assigned to work in one of the Clinical Biochemistry Specialist Laboratories listed below and will rotate between assigned Specialist Section and the main Automation Laboratory for 6 months of each year.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an up to date knowledge of current working practices in Clinical Biochemistry for both Automation and an assigned Specialist section.
  • Carry out complex manual testing of specialist samples.
  • Carry out appropriate procedures, including those requiring the exercise of independent judgement and initiative with minimal supervision.
  • Assist in research projects, where necessary, and to be involved in the development of new procedures and techniques.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Must be registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Biomedical Scientist, AND,
  • Have completed IBMS Specialist Diploma (or equivalent) in Clinical Biochemistry.

Desirable Skills

  • Basic Computer Skills.
