Youth Leader and Homework Club Worker with Admin Duties
Job description
To assist the Youth Programme Co-ordinator in the co-ordination, delivery, monitoring and evaluation of the Culmore Youth Engagement programme. The CYE programme will provide local children and young people aged 7 to 17yrs with the opportunity to benefit from mental and physical well-being support, a Youth Forum that will provide a safe space to have their say on decisions and services that affect them, environmental and climate awareness and action, volunteering & life skills development opportunities, cultural and social activities, and community festival engagement. The Homework Club Worker will support the daily running of the Culmore Hub Homework Club, providing a safe, calm, and structured environment for primary school pupils P1 to P7 to complete homework and participate in quiet enrichment activities.
Responsibilities
- Youth Leader:
- To work directly with children and young people to develop their social education by providing activities and support through the Culmore Youth Engagement programme
- Ensuring that children and young people play an active role in the Culmore Youth Engagement and are actively engaged in shaping the programme
- Engage where appropriate in outreach youth work programmes
- Communicate effectively and develop a rapport with children and young people
- Assist in the development of relationships with the wider community and external agencies.
- Homework Club Worker Duties:
- Provide a warm, welcoming environment for children attending the Homework Club
- Supervise children as they complete their assigned homework.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Either: A) EA endorsed, Youth Support Worker Qualification; OR B) OCN Level 2 Youth Support Work and level 3 Programme Development; OR C) An equivalent youth work qualification AND One year’s experience of working in a youth work setting in a paid
- Experience of delivering social education programmes and activities designed for children and young people
- Experience of supporting children & young people to work effectively in groups and to express and realise their goals.
- Knowledge of the Youth Service Curriculum
- Ability to design and deliver programmes of activities for children and young people, based on need and the NI youth work curriculum.
- Knowledge of Health and Safety requirements and Safeguarding best practice and how these relate to children and young people and staff
Desirable Skills
- Experience of partnership working with schools, families, or community organisations
- IT skills for recording sessions, reporting, and communication
- Experience of monitoring and evaluating youth programmes
