The Labourer / General Operative will support the day to day activities of a busy engineering workshop specialising in welding, pipefitting, and stainless steel fabrication. The role involves assisting skilled tradespeople, preparing materials, maintaining a clean and organised workspace, and carrying out general labouring duties both in the workshop and on site. The successful candidate will follow instructions accurately, work safely at all times, and contribute to the smooth and efficient delivery of engineering projects.
Responsibilities
- Support welders, pipefitters, and fabricators with day to day workshop and site tasks
- Prepare materials, components, and work areas for fabrication and installation
- Carry out general labouring duties including lifting, moving, and organising equipment
- Assist with loading and unloading deliveries safely and efficiently
- Operate basic hand tools and workshop equipment under supervision
- Provide general assistance during stainless steel fabrication and pipework assembly
- Support site teams during installation works as required
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Previous experience in a labouring or general operative role
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work safely at all times
- Basic understanding of workshop practices and hand tools
- Good awareness of health and safety requirements, including correct use of PPE
- Able to work as part of a team
Desirable Skills
- Experience working in an engineering, fabrication, or construction environment
- Ability to use power tools, grinders, or cutting equipment safely
- Full UK driving licence
- Willingness to undertake further training and develop new skills
