Job description
Main Building, Craigavon Area Hospital The jobholder will be responsible to the Director of Medicine and Unscheduled Care for the delivery of high-quality care to patients in the Trust’s Medicine Division. He/she will be responsible for the operational management of all specialities/services in the Division. This will incorporate Stroke & Frailty, Endocrine & Diabetes, Dermatology, Neurology Gastroenterology. (Following the reconfiguration of Directorates the portfolio may be reviewed to include other services). In line with the Trust’s approach to collective leadership, he/she will collaborate closely with the Divisional Medical Director and Divisional Nurse, along with other disciplines, to implement the objectives of the Trust’s Corporate Plan and ensure effective multidisciplinary working based on the Directorate’s ‘multiple site-one team’ ethos. The post-holder will ensure that appropriate governance arrangements are established and maintained across the Division and will lead the promotion of excellence and the maintenance of standards. He/she will be accountable for the efficient use of all resources and ensuring effective financial management is embedded within the Directorate. The jobholder will also support the Director of Medicine and Unscheduled Care Services with long term planning and transformation/service reform initiatives. As an Assistant Director, the jobholder will be a member of the Directorate’s Senior Management Team and will therefore contribute to policy development in the Directorate and the achievement of its overall objectives.
Responsibilities
- Working in partnership with the Divisional Medical Director and Divisional Nurse, lead multidisciplinary teams and oversee the co-ordination of all processes to ensure the delivery of high quality and equitable care of patients
- Ensure the successful implementation of all DOH and Strategic Partnership Planning Group (SPPG) commissioning priorities & targets in the Division
- With a particular emphasis on those relating to waiting times &the establishment of agreed treatment schedules.
- In line with the Trust’s ‘Home is the Hub’ approach to maintaining people at home, work closely with senior clinicians and other senior managers in the Trust to secure an appropriate balance between hospital and community-based services
- Achieve an integrated approach to reducing inappropriate hospital admissions and lengths of stay
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Hold a University degree or recognised professional qualification AND have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in a senior management role in a major complex organisation OR
- Have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in a senior management role in a major complex organisation
- Delivered against challenging performance management programmes for a minimum of two years meeting a full range of key targets, making significant improvements and demonstrating improved & measurable outcomes
- Have worked with a diverse range of stakeholders, both internal and external to the organisation, to achieve successful service and patient outcomes.
- Be able to successfully demonstrate high level management, people, governance, financial and organisational skills for a minimum of two years
- Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment.
- This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.
