Care Assistant, Lawnfield House


Job description

To be responsible, through management and staff leadership, for promoting and ensuring the highest standards of care, in compliance with statutory requirements to meet the physical, social, emotional and spiritual needs of the residents with the Christian ethos of Lawnfield House.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the daily care of the residents, helping residents with all aspects of personal care where necessary, to ensure their needs are met, respecting their privacy and dignity.
  • Encourage residents to be as active and as independent as possible.
  • Accompany residents to hospital, clinic etc., or on short walks as directed.
  • Ensure vigilance is exercised at all times in relation to the health, safety and well-being of residents.

  • To complete appropriate written records as required.
  • To promote and take part in social and recreational activities within the home, which are designed to enhance quality of life.
  • To ensure compliance with the Presbyterian Council for Social Witness policies and procedures.
  • To attend mandatory training
  • To adhere to the Christian ethos of the home (e.g. in terms of language and conduct).

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Evidence an understanding of and respect for the needs of older people or those with learning and physical disabilities
  • Willing to undertake appropriate training as required; eg induction training, or NVQ/QCF level 2
  • Awareness of health and safety practices within a working environment;
  • Basic numeracy required by the duties of the post (as endorsed by appropriate qualification or use of numeracy skills in a work or home environment).
  • Experience of working in a care setting
  • Experience of working with those with disability
  • Knowledge of the role of RQIA
  • Experience with people with a learning disability or older people
  • Be willing to work flexibly to fulfil the requirements of the Home
  • Must be willing to behave in a manner which respects the Christian ethos of the Presbyterian Church in Ireland;
  • Registration with the Northern Ireland Social Care Council within 6 months of appointment is a requirement of this position

Desirable Skills

  • NVQ/QCF Level 2 in Health and Social Care
  • Relevant statutory training e.g. Health and Safety, Fire Awareness and Manual Handling
  • Experience of working in a care setting
  • Experience of working with those with disability
  • Knowledge of the role of RQIA

Salary Scale: £12.40 per hour (no NVQ) £12.46 per hour with NVQ/QCF Level 2 in Health and Social Care £12.50 per hour with NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Health and Social Care Hours: Post 1: 37 hours (Days) - maternity cover Post 2: 12.33 hours (Days) Post 3: 37 hours (Nights) Number of posts: 3 We are an equal opportunities employer
