Grounds Staff
Job description
THE EMPLOYER IS: COMPASS ADVOCACY NETWORK The Grounds Staff role supports the care and maintenance of the 11 acre farm, campsite and gardens so that they are safe, tidy and welcoming for visitors, staff, volunteers and campsite users. The role builds practical outdoor, horticultural and environmental skills while helping to keep paths, fences and shared spaces in good condition.
Responsibilities
- Grass cutting, strimming, weeding, planting, basic repairs and path/fence upkeep to keep the farm, campsite and garden safe and tidy.
- Safe use, cleaning and basic checks of hand tools and small machinery, following instructions and reporting faults promptly.
- Following risk assessments, using PPE, safe manual handling, working in all weathers and keeping areas safe for visitors, staff and volunteers.
- Learning about planting, soil care, composting, wildlife friendly practices and seasonal tasks in a community garden and rural setting.
- Safely collecting, sorting and disposing of green waste, litter and recyclable materials, sweeping and clearing paths and presenting outdoor areas to an agreed standard.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weathers and to carry out physical tasks such as grass cutting, weeding and lifting within safe limits.
- Ability to follow instructions, work safely with tools and equipment and report any problems to a supervisor.
- Able to work as part of a team, be reliable and take pride in keeping the site clean, safe and welcoming for visitors and service users.
Desirable Skills
- Any previous experience of gardening, grounds work, farming, environmental projects or outdoor volunteering.
- Interest in learning more about plants, wildlife friendly gardening and caring for a community farm and campsite.
