Community Based Counsellor


Job description

In what is a primarily clinical role you will work alongside and support the clinical and operation management teams in the delivery of high quality, person centred, safe, effective and responsive therapeutic programs of care. This will include providing brief solution focused counselling as part of the following: - Step 2 Community Based Early Intervention Service for People affected by Substance Use - Step 2 Self Harm Intervention Programme (SHIP) - Employee Assistance and Student Assistant Programmes

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the operations and clinical teams to safely manage a weekly clinical caseload of twenty-five clients in various locations. Attend case management meetings as required.
  • Deliver time-limited solution focused therapeutic interventions to those affected by substance use (alcohol and other drugs), clients experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties and / or young people (aged 14 and above) and:
  • Deliver face to face and remote psychological intervention tailored to individual needs to include problem solving, psychodynamic CBT and in line with NICE Guidelines.
  • Routinely administer and score self-report standardized outcome measurement tools including but not limited to CORE.
  • Maintain accurate and up to date clinical notes recorded within 24 hours from the last session on Inspires Information Management System.
  • Liaise with and where necessary contact GP’s multidisciplinary mental health professionals, community and primary care mental health teams.
  • Liaise and work collaboratively with other services / organisations for the benefit of client wellbeing.
  • As required liaise with and work collaboratively with case managers on specified contracts.
  • Consult work collaboratively with and discuss complex case presentations with the Clinical Team.
  • To be flexible as the role involves working at various locations and times, working both face to face and remotely.
  • Assessment, management and escalation of risk and liaising with GP’s, stakeholders, multidisciplinary mental health and allied professionals to deliver on an outcome based programme.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Possess a full current driving licence and access to a car. Business insurance will be a requirement for this post.
  • A professional Diploma in Counselling covering structured person-centred, CBT informed psychological interventions AND accredited membership with a professional registration Body (BACP/IACP, BABCP, UKCP, NCS or equivalent).
  • One year's counselling experience to include working with individuals experiencing or recovering from Mental Health issues, Substance use issues and/or Self Harm.
  • Ability to manage your own caseload and routinely monitor outcomes while delivering time-limited solution focused therapeutic interventions.
  • An understanding of Adult Safeguarding and Child Protection legislation.
  • Proficient IT skills with a knowledge of client information and client journey systems.
