Job description

SHSCT _ Band 8A Physiotherapy Advanced Practitioner (Level 2) Community Respiratory Service. The Physiotherapy Advanced Practitioner within the community respiratory services will be the lead Physiotherapist, providing comprehensive respiratory care service to patients under the care of Community Respiratory Services and will be a highly experienced, knowledgeable and educated member of the Community Respiratory Team. The Physiotherapy Advanced Practitioner will be autonomous, taking a lead role in community, acute and long-term care. Be responsible for provision of a quality, specialised service to deliver a high standard of expert specialist assessment, diagnosis and treatment of respiratory patients using advanced knowledge and clinical reasoning to an exceptional standard. Work in an extended scope role with advanced clinical competencies in medicine management as an Independent Non-Medical and supplementary prescriber and willing to undertake other advanced training as required.

Responsibilities

  • To manage a caseload of complex cases requiring specialist respiratory assessment, diagnosis and treatment interventions which are evidence based and patient centred within a Multidisciplinary framework.
  • To demonstrate independent and expert skills, in assessment and diagnosis of respiratory conditions and to order and undertake appropriate diagnostic testing.
  • Provide expert clinical advice in all aspects of respiratory management to other professionals locally and nationally across a wide spectrum of acute and chronic complex conditions, demonstrating advanced skills and knowledge and experience.
  • To be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own clinical and professional work. To hold professional autonomy and responsibility for the quality of care provided within community physiotherapy respiratory services.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • 7 years postgraduate work experience to include minimum of 5 years at Band 7 Specialist grade / equivalent involving the ongoing assessment, management and treatment of a wide range of acute and chronic complex respiratory conditions.
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in staff management, professional practice, mentorship and supervision of staff.
  • Demonstrate evidence of participation in audit / research.
  • Have a minimum of 1 years’ experience in delivering strategic objectives and of working with a diverse range of internal and external stakeholders in a role that has contribute to the successful implementation of a significant change initiative.
  • Experience in delivering objectives which have led to significant Service Improvement
  • Degree or Diploma in Physiotherapy (or Equivalent)
  • Currently registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
  • 8. Evidence of successful completion of a minimum of 2 MSc. Level accredited post-graduate modules specific to the field of Respiratory care or completion of one level accredited post graduate module in respiratory with
  • The requirement to complete a second on appointment.
  • Post Graduate Certificate in Medicines management (or equivalent level training) and registered on the HCPC Independent Prescriber register.
  • Research Module or willing to complete within 1 year of appointment.
  • Evidence of completion of specialist/ advanced training or willing to undertake within 3 years of appointment (pending availability of course) to meet service objectives. e.g. CxR Interpretation, Interpretation of bloods and
  • Develop ‘Scheme of work’ with radiology.
  • Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment.
  • This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.
