We work to make art accessible to everyone by offering free exhibitions, workshops, and community projects in our welcoming city-centre venue. Our programmes foster community connections, develop creative skills, and boost wellbeing. The primary role of the Facilities Assistant is to prepare the gallery for visitors and to ensure that high standards of presentation are maintained. In this operational role they will work to ensure the day-to-day cleanliness and tidiness of the gallery, assisting in all aspects of facilities management including the preparation of the spaces for workshops, hires, events and exhibitions. The Facilities Assistant will report to the Development Manager and work with all team members to ensure that visitors have the best possible experience.
Responsibilities
- Prepare galleries for visitors by ensuring appropriate standards of presentation.
- Work with the Engagement Assistant preparing the Engagement Hub for visitors, participants and workshops, ensuring a consistent high level of presentation and that the Hub is adequately stocked with all materials needed.
- Respond to any public enquiries in a positive manner and ensure that the relevant department is informed of any visitors for meetings.
- Take responsibility for regular tasks such as bin collection, kitchen supplies, daily replenishment of resources such as soap, toilet roll, filling the water dispensers.
- Setting up rooms and clearing as needed for meetings and events.
- Complete daily Gallery checks and report on any maintenance issues or faults.
- Work with the Development Manager to liaise with external contractors to manage building maintenance, e.g. alarm company.
- Assist in the purchase and preparation of materials for workshops, events, gallery receptions and Late-Night Art.
- Assist in keeping staff areas and technical stores clean and organised under the direction of technicians and assisting in preparing spaces for technicians.
- Assist with welcoming visitors and participants as needed.
- Work with the Development Manager and Engagement Assistant to maintain and improve gallery accessibility.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- GCSE Maths and English (Grade C or above).
- A demonstrable interest in art and art galleries.
- Experience of working with the public.
- Good organisational skills.
- Ability to prioritise a varied workload as part of a busy team and stay calm under pressure.
- Ability to adapt quickly to new challenges.
- Ability to lift, carry, organise and tidy.
- Friendly and adaptable.
