Staff Nurse
Job description
The post holder is responsible for the assessment of person centred care and the development, implementation and evaluation of care, for patients who are attending the department for Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies (SACT) and/or supportive therapies associated with treatment. The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and will be required to supervise and demonstrate procedures to qualified and/or unqualified staff. The post holder will also provide specialist care treatment and support for patients receiving SACT and / or supportive therapies. The post holder will also be expected to contribute to advancing the body of knowledge through education, research and audit as well as developing practice in others with regard to this patient group. They will be expected to play a key role within the multi-professional team in order to ensure a seamless, co-ordinated approach to care and timely onward referral to other professionals and agencies as appropriate.
Responsibilities
- Provision of nursing care to the patient before, during and after all specialist procedures as above, and including, but not limited to, bone marrow biopsies; CT scan guided biopsies, surgical insertion of Hickman lines and their removal.
- Clinically assess patients and collate essential blood results pre SACT.
- Support the Ward Sister in the co-ordination of high quality services to patients and relatives.
- Under the direction of the Ward Sister, show leadership through the professional development of nursing staff, the implementation of evidence based practice and clinical audit.
- Work as part of the team and will contribute to the care of all patients attending the department.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Registered staff nurse on part 1 or 12 (adult) of the Nursing and Midwifery Council register.
- Post-registration qualification in relevant specialty (i.e. SACT Module or Haematology course).
