Childcare Assistant
Job description
THE EMPLOYER IS: GLEN COMMUNITY PARENTING YOUTH GROUP DAYCARE This role is responsible for the delivery of best practice in relation to childcare provision and for supporting the Room Leader in the day-to-day running of the centre. Key duties include assisting with staff rotation and planning, supervising lunch cover, and carrying out routine health and safety checks to ensure a safe and well-managed environment. The post holder will contribute to the development, implementation, and ongoing review of policies and procedures to ensure that best practice is consistently prioritised and that a child-centred environment is created, maintained, and continuously improved. The role also requires maintaining high standards of health, safety, and hygiene at all times, alongside accurate and up-to-date administrative records. These records include children’s registrations, daily attendance registers, accident and incident reports, medication records, and any other relevant documentation that may arise. Developing and maintaining positive relationships with parents is a key aspect of the position, with adherence to the partnership with parents policy for Glen Parent Day-Care being essential. The individual will work closely with the Room Leader and Childcare Manager to support the smooth and effective running of the day-care facility and will be expected to participate in supervision sessions, appraisals, meetings, and training as required.
Responsibilities
- To work as part of the childcare team within the Glen Community Parent and Youth Group childcare facility, providing a stimulating and high-quality learning environment for children.
- To play a full and active role during children’s mealtimes, including breakfast, lunch, and break periods.
- To consistently maintain high standards of hygiene, including nappy changing and the cleaning of rooms and equipment, ensuring all resources are properly maintained and stored.
- In consultation with the childcare team, to plan and implement an appropriate play programme that meets individual children’s needs, with a strong emphasis on holistic development.
- To maintain accurate and up-to-date records in line with Glen Community Parent and Youth Group childcare policies and procedures, ensuring confidentiality is upheld at all times.
- To remain informed and fully compliant with the policies and procedures of G.C.P.Y.G.
- To participate in special seasonal activities or centre projects, including trips and workshops.
- To liaise with parents on a regular basis regarding their child’s progress.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Ability to build relationships and work as part of a team.
- The ability to work flexible hours when required.
- The ability to safely lift children and equipment when necessary.
- Teamwork skills.
- The ability to implement current practice standards within a childcare setting.
- A clear commitment to the ethos and values of the Glen Community Parent and Youth Group.
- The ability to fully participate in supervision, appraisals, meetings, and training as required.
Desirable Skills
- An ICT qualification.
- A friendly, caring, helpful, open-minded and patient disposition.
- A genuine desire to work with children.
- The ability to work flexible hours when required.
