Child Care Worker
Job description
THE EMPLOYER IS: LISBURN YMCA The Child Care Worker will support the delivery of high-quality care to children using the service by helping to create a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment. The role involves assisting with age-appropriate activities that promote social development, learning, and well-being for children with learning disabilities and associated disorders.
Responsibilities
- Assist with setting up rooms, equipment, and materials before each session, and help with tidying, cleaning, and storing resources safely after sessions.
- Support the smooth running of activities, ensuring the environment is welcoming, safe, and suitable for all children.
- Deliver and promote evidence-based practice in line with individual care plans under supervision.
- Work closely with children to understand and support their individual needs, ensuring each child is treated as an individual.
- Build positive relationships with parents and carers, sharing information and supporting them as appropriate.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- A genuine interest in working with children and young people.
- Willingness to support children with learning disabilities and additional needs.
- Ability to follow guidance, routines, and health and safety procedures.
- Basic communication skills and willingness to ask for support when needed.
- Ability to work as part of a supportive team.
- Commitment to learning through training, supervision, and mentoring.
- Positive approach towards inclusive care and diversity.
Desirable Skills
- Any previous experience with children (paid, voluntary, family, or education-based).
- Interest in child development, play, or learning activities.
- Basic awareness of safeguarding and child protection.
- Willingness to work towards a relevant childcare qualification.
- Ability to remain calm and patient in new or challenging situations.
- Enthusiasm for developing a career in childcare or support work.
