Afterschool Supervisor
Job description
The Afterschool Supervisor oversees the daily operations of a afterschool room, ensuring a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment for children. They lead and support staff, uphold safeguarding and regulatory standards, and foster strong relationships with families.
Responsibilities
- Create and implement a variety of engaging, age-appropriate activities and play opportunities for primary school-aged children.
- Lead and manage the daily operations of the Afterschool room, ensuring a safe and joyful environment for all children.
- Maintain high standards of health and safety, including conducting risk assessments and following all safeguarding protocols.
- Supervise and support other staff members or assistants within the room to ensure the team is working effectively.
- Act as a main point of contact for parents and guardians, providing updates on their child’s afternoon and well-being.
- Oversee the preparation and serving of healthy afternoon snacks, adhering to any specific dietary requirements or allergies.
- Promote positive behavior and social skills among the children using a supportive and consistent approach.
- Maintain accurate attendance registers and ensure all necessary documentation for the room is up to date.
- Manage and organize toys, equipment, and craft supplies to ensure the room is well-resourced and tidy.
- Work towards or maintain at least an NVQ Level 3 qualification to stay current with childcare best practices.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Level 3 qualification in Childcare (or willing to work towards)
Desirable Skills
- Safeguarding & Child Protection
- Paediatric First Aid
- Food Hygiene Level 2
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- Health & Safety Training
