Nurse Colposcopist - Band 7 progressing to Band 8A
Job description
The post holder will start off to develop the skills in Colposcopy and when competent in that skill they will then take on training for Hysteroscopy. It is recognised that there will be capacity within the remit of the post holder to carry out both roles. The Advanced Nurse Practitioner (ANP) will be a highly experienced and expert member of the Gynaecology multidisciplinary team, providing person-centred care and practising autonomously within their expanded scope of practice. The ANP will use their expert knowledge and complex decision-making skills, guided by The Code and the Principles for Advanced Practice . They are accountable for the total episode of care for patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed needs and this is shaped by the context of their clinical practice. Responsibilities
- Practice autonomously, using a person-centred approach within gynaecology, specialising in nurse-led colposcopy initially and then hysteroscopy.
- Demonstrate comprehensive skills in undertaking holistic and complex assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management and prescribing within gynaecology, with a specialist focus on colposcopy and hysteroscopy care.
- Apply reasonable adjustments where appropriate, such as extending appointment duration, offering accessible patient information formats and supporting communication needs.
- Demonstrate advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of gynaecology with a wide range of approaches to the management of patients demonstrated by advanced clinical reasoning and be able to comprehensively assess patients for risk factors etc.
- Ability to prioritise a complex workload and practice in a rapidly changing environment and the ability to manage and plan multiple patient caseloads.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Registered Nurse on Part 1 (Adult) of the live NMC register.
- 5 years’ post registration experience, to include a minimum of 2 years gynaecological experience at Band 6 level.
- A relevant university degree.
- Member of British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP) (please note applicants who do not yet hold the requisite qualifications may still apply via training route, provided they have a minimum of 2 years’ gynaecological experience).
- Hold a British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology (BSCCP) Accredited Post Graduate Qualification in Colposcopist Diagnostic and Treatment/ Therapy. (please note if you do not hold this qualification, you may still apply).
- MSC in Advanced Practice within the relevant area of practice to include holding an NMC recordable Independent and Supplementary prescribing qualification.
- Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment.
Desirable Skills
- Gynaecology / hysteroscopy 18 months experience.
- Have completed or willingness to complete accredited British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE) Diagnostic Hysteroscopy and Therapeutic Management Postgraduate Certificate Framework for Higher Education Qualification Level 7.
- Post registration qualification in ultrasound scanning.
- Have completed or willingness to complete advanced communication skills course.
