Job description
The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the efficient day to day running of a Molecular section within Virology laboratory, utilising the resources available and to implement senior management decisions relating to department and trust policy. The post holder will also take direction from the Laboratory Service Managers and Clinical Leads on day-to-day matters relating to all aspects of UKAS accreditation and patient and staff safety in the laboratory service. Responsibilities
- Co-ordinate laboratory investigations, interpretation, resolution, documentation and reporting of results.
- Be responsible for writing and the regular review of standard operating procedures (SOP’s) in line with UKAS requirements.
- Participate in any Virology related validation/verification projects.
- Participate and assist with the UKAS audit schedule.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Must hold an MSc Biomedical Science; or an IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma; or be a Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Science or equivalent.
- Current registration as a Biomedical Scientist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
- Minimum of three years’ experience in Virology/Microbiology/Molecular at Band 6 level or above.
Desirable Skills
- Chartered Scientist.
