Job description
The Head of Infection Prevention & Control (IP&C) will be a member of the Nursing, Midwifery & AHP Services Directorate Senior Management Team (SMT). The post holder will be responsible to the Director, and have delegated responsibility from the Director, for the development, delivery and provision of high quality, safe and effective IP&C Services across the Trust. The Head of IP&C will bring a perspective to teams to deliver services in line with corporate objectives and with key quality and performance indicators and targets. Responsibilities
- Lead on the development of a Trust IP&C Strategy and input into any regional strategies.
- Contribute to the Trust’s Business Planning and Strategic Development, ensuring IP&C and continual quality improvement remains integral to the process.
- Advise the Trust on service development, taking account of national guidelines, and of examples of excellence in service provision.
- Develop a Trust Infection Prevention & Reduction Plan to be adapted by each Directorate.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Registered Nurse on Part 1 or 12 of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) Live Register.
- Have completed a Post Graduate Certificate / Qualification in Infection Prevention & Control
- 5 years post registration experience in Infection Prevention & Control, 3 of which must be in a Band 7 role in a major complex organisation within an Acute or Community setting
- Or 2 years post registration experience in Infection Prevention & Control and 5 years’ experience in a Band 8a or above Nursing Leadership post in a major complex organisation within an Acute or Community setting.
- Demonstrate previous experience of operational management of a service, including service improvement initiatives.
- Delivered against challenging performance management programmes for a minimum of 2 years meeting a full range of key targets and making significant improvements.
- Demonstrate evidence of working with a diverse range of stakeholders, both internal and external to the organisation, including clinicians and other health and social care professionals, to achieve successful outcomes for a minimum of 2 years.
- Demonstrate evidence of high-level people management, governance, leadership and organisation skills for a minimum of 2 years.
- Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car is essential.
- This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post.
