THE EMPLOYER IS: HAZEL WAND THEATRE SCHOOL This role supports our lead drama, music, and dance teachers. It includes a structured development plan to train the participant in teaching skills, with the goal of them eventually running their own sessions independently. Mentorship: You will be paired with an experienced lead teacher who will provide weekly 1-on-1 mentorship sessions to review your progress and teaching techniques. Career Pathway: This role is specifically designed to be a "stepping stone" into professional arts education. We aim to train the successful participant to a standard where they can be considered for permanent or freelance teaching positions within the school after the JobStart scheme. Community Impact: You will play a key role in the Omagh arts community, helping to inspire the next generation of local performers. Safeguarding: As this role involves working with children and young people, the successful applicant will be required to undergo an Enhanced AccessNI check. Development Opportunities: You will have the opportunity to observe and assist across multiple disciplines (Drama, Music, Dance), providing a well-rounded foundation for a career in theatre education.

Responsibilities

  • Provide classroom support by managing group activities and preparing materials for lessons.
  • Gradually take on co-teaching responsibilities, such as leading warm-ups or short script segments.
  • Assist with student welfare and supervision during classes and rehearsals.
  • Observe and learn lesson planning and curriculum delivery for various age groups (3-18).
  • Support rehearsals by prompting lines and assisting with basic stage movements (blocking).

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Passion for the performing arts (Drama, Music, or Dance).
  • Ability to engage and inspire children and young people.
  • Patience and strong interpersonal skills for supporting student learning.
  • Reliability and the ability to work effectively as part of a teaching team.
  • Ambitious mindset with a desire to train as a future performing arts instructor.

Desirable Skills

  • Previous experience in a youth work, coaching, or childcare environment.
  • Basic proficiency in a musical instrument or specific dance style.
