THE EMPLOYER IS: DIVERSE YOUTH NI The Youth Support Worker will work as part of the Diverse Youth NI team to support the delivery of youth and community-based activities for young people from diverse and marginalised backgrounds. This JobStart role is designed to provide meaningful work experience, skills development and structured employability support. The postholder will assist with youth sessions, outreach activities and programme preparation, particularly during evening and weekend delivery times. They will work under supervision and receive mentoring, training and guidance to help develop confidence, workplace skills and experience in the youth and community sector.

Responsibilities

  • Provide wellbeing support and mentoring to young people, under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Assist participants to develop employability skills, including confidence, communication, time management and preparation for future work or training.
  • Support young people with career awareness, progression opportunities and goal setting.
  • Help facilitate group activities and workshops aimed at building confidence, resilience and personal development.
  • Work closely with colleagues to support participants’ individual needs and agreed goals.
  • Encourage positive participation and engagement in a safe, inclusive and supportive environment.
  • Follow safeguarding, equality, diversity and health and safety policies at all times.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • An interest in working with young people and supporting their wellbeing and personal development.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to engage positively with others.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and follow guidance from supervisors.
  • A positive, reliable and respectful approach to work.
  • Willingness to learn and take part in training, mentoring and employability support.
  • Basic organisational and time-management skills.
  • Understanding of the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and follow safeguarding and health and safety procedures.

Desirable Skills

  • Some experience of volunteering, youth work, community work or working with people.
  • An interest in wellbeing, mental health or personal development.
  • Basic IT skills, such as using email or online tools.
  • Ability to support group activities or workshops.
  • Awareness of issues affecting young people from diverse or marginalised backgrounds.
  • Willingness to engage with outreach or community-based activities.

The Employer is: DIVERSE YOUTH NI JobStart Opportunity - Working Hours Information - Standard Hours: up to 25 hours per week. - Flexible/Reduced Hours: May be available upon approval by a Work Coach. - Additional Hours: The employer may offer extra hours depending on availability.
