Fracture Liaison/ Osteoporosis Nurse


Job description

The post holder is responsible for the assessment of care needs and the development of programmes of care and/or the implementation and evaluation of these programmes of care. The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and will be required to supervise and demonstrate procedures to qualified and/or unqualified staff. The post holder will promote and support effective team working, fostering a culture of openness and transparency. The post holder will ensure that they take all concerns raised with them seriously and act in accordance with: The Code (NMC 2018) particularly sections 16 and 17, as well as the Employer’s Raising Concerns Policy. Responsibilities

  • Work with all members of the Fracture Liaison Service to identify, assess and manage those patients at highest risk of fragility fractures and assist with implementation of guidelines and review of the service and professional standards.
  • Assist the osteoporosis sister ensuring all patients presenting with a low trauma fracture are offered assessment of bone density or treatment as appropriate.
  • Work as part of a team to help educate and support other health care professionals to improve management of patients with osteoporosis, fractures and falls.
  • With appropriate training and support to be able to interpret the results of DXA scans and to communicate effectively, sensitive information and advice.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Registered Nurse on Part 1 (Adult) of the Live Register of the NMC.
  • Hold a current recordable Fracture, Trauma or Orthopaedic Nursing Certificate qualification or equivalent. OR Currently undertaking the Fracture Trauma & Orthopaedic Nursing Course. OR Willing to undertake the Fracture Trauma & Orthopaedic Nursing.
