Job description

Deliver an efficient and effective programme that meets the service targets for example on health, safety, supervision, customer service, and operational procedure, policies and practices. Responsible for assisting with designing, delivering and developing an innovative high standard aquatic programme across a range of disciplines. Deliver on the aquatic disciplines to maximise participation levels, promoting aquatic activities on improving health.

Responsibilities

  • Delivery of the services school, centre based and private Aquatic tuition programme(s) in line with designated curriculum, facility rules, regulations and operational practices.
  • Deliver quality and progressive Aquatic tuition and coaching to a range of users including customers, schools and those with additional needs using a range of verbal and visual feedback techniques and demonstrations as required.
  • Complete administration work as required including the preparation and delivery of lessons plans, completion of feedback and assessment forms for participants, attendance records and Aquatic block administration
  • Using the centres administrative systems as required.
  • Liaise with customers, teachers, groups and staff as and when required
  • Review the aquatic programme, identify opportunities to grow and maximise participation, increase opportunities to improve health & wellbeing through aquatic activities, in liaison with the Service Manager or Designated Officer.
  • Identify and undertake training to ensure that delivery complies with the latest standards as set out by the governing body, meets the service needs and grow the aquatic programme in line with agreed service objectives.
  • Undertake Qualifications and deliver on new Aquatic disciplines as per the needs of the service to grow the programme within an agreed timeframe.
  • Accountable for a timely submission of administration of the aquatic programme as directed by the Service manager or designated Officer.
  • Complete routine inspections of equipment and the area prior to use, carry out low-level maintenance, report any defects and complete relevant administration documentation such as inspection logs as required.
  • Responsible for identifying potential hazards, logging and reporting all incidents/accidents in accordance with reporting procedures.
  • Responsible for assisting with the day-to-day administration duties in the organisation of lessons, galas, special events, etc., including supplying written reports to the Service Manager or designated officer.
  • Carrying out risk assessments where applicable.
  • Responsible for set ups, dismantle and/or store equipment in the delivery of facility programmed services accordance with standard operating procedures and health and safety obligations
  • Assist the Service Manager (or designated Officer) in the development, implementation and achieving of Key Performance Indicators for the service.
  • Undertake Life Guarding and Leisure Attendant duties as and when required.
  • Ensure full compliance with Health and Safety requirements and legislation in accordance with Council’s Policies and Procedures.
  • Undertake any other duties appropriate to scale, which may be required from time to time. Comply with and actively promote the Council’s policies and procedures on all aspects of equality.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Hold a current and recognised level 2 swim teachers’ qualification.
  • One years’ working in a Leisure facility to include: Delivering a range of swimming lessons to a range of ages and abilities. Interaction with public providing feedback on swimmers progression and lessons. Administrative duties.
  • Knowledge and application of child protection issues.
  • Knowledge and application of Health and Safety.
  • The post will be subject to an enhanced AccessNI check for successful candidates in accordance with Access NI Code of Practice https://www.nidirect.gov.uk/publications/accessni-code-practice

Desirable Skills

  • Hold a current NPLQ qualification or achieve it within 6 months.
  • Hold a current and recognised qualification to deliver aquatic disciplines e.g. Parent and babies/toddlers Disability swim teachers Aqua-aerobics Snorkelling Instructors Other recognised qualifications

Further Information

Various permanent part time posts: City Baths - 1 x18.5 hours Foyle Arena - 1 x18.5 hours 1x25 hours Riversdale Leisure Centre - 3x18 hours Templemore Sports Complex - 1x20 hours Must be available to work a flexible pattern including evenings and weekends and undertake regular staff training and development programmes as required. Wage: Scale 5, SCP 15-19 - £30,024 -£32,061 pro rata.
