Junior Events Coordinator

Job description

THE EMPLOYER IS: URBAN MARKET RETAIL LTD This role is an opportunity for someone who is enthusiastic about food, art, culture, markets, festivals, and live events, and who is interested in starting a career in the events industry and learning how live events are planned and delivered, while supporting tourism, culture, creative communities, and small businesses. As a Junior Events Coordinator, you will support the planning and on-the-ground delivery of events, including food festivals, markets, and cultural events. You will work closely with the Managing Director, Event Managers, and delivery teams to help turn event plans into reality. This includes assisting with planning, client communication, site layouts, and physically working on event sites during set-up, delivery, and take-down. A creative approach and genuine interest in food, culture, arts, cultural and community events is beneficial. This role is ideal for someone who wants to understand how events are delivered in practice and is keen to gain real-world, hands-on experience. The role is client-facing and practical and is designed as a supported, entry-level position under the JobStart Scheme. You will integrate into both the planning and the event delivery teams, acting as a link between clients and the Managing Director during the planning process. This role does not hold line management or operational decision-making responsibility. Working Pattern & Location - During event weeks, work will take place on event sites and may include longer shifts to support set-up, delivery, and take-down. - During non-event weeks, hours will focus on planning, meetings, and preparation. - A monthly work pattern will be agreed in advance, with flexibility required due to the nature of live events. At the start of the placement, the role will include attendance at a Belfast city centre workspace two days per week for induction and training. Following this period, the role will be hybrid, combining remote working, planning meetings, and on-site attendance at event locations across Northern Ireland. Transport to and from event locations is provided, where your own transport is not available. Please note that this role involves working on outdoor event sites and requires a practical, hands-on approach. Tools, Training & Support - All necessary equipment will be provided, including a laptop and access to digital systems. - You will be supported to develop skills in event planning, site layouts, scheduling, and documentation. - You will receive training and guidance on event safety awareness and event-related documentation. - Ongoing mentoring, supervision, and support will be provided throughout the role.
