Kitchen Assistant
Job description
THE EMPLOYER IS: MALLARD COMMUNITY CHARITABLE HUB LTD A Kitchen Assistant supports the Chef in the preparation of food, maintenance of cleanliness, and overall smooth operation of the kitchen. The role involves assisting the Chef with basic food preparation, washing dishes and equipment, and ensuring hygiene and safety standards are consistently followed. The Kitchen Assistant plays an important role in maintaining an efficient, clean, and safe kitchen environment.
Responsibilities
- Wash, peel and prepare food ingredients and simple dishes.
- Use equipment and utensils such as mixers, food processors, hot plates, oven, knives and cutters.
- Wash dishes and kitchen equipment.
- Clean workstations and storage areas.
- Empty bins and recycle properly.
- Upload fresh supplies and organise stockroom, fridge and freezer, keeping them tidy.
- Check expiry dates and rotate food stock.
- Follow food safety and hygiene rules.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Basic knowledge of food hygiene and safety.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work well as part of a team.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Able to stand for long periods.
- Willingness to learn and take direction.
Desirable Skills
- Previous experience in a kitchen or catering environment.
- Food Hygiene Certificate.
- Basic food preparation skills.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Flexibility to work different shifts.
- Good organisational skills.
