Nursery Room Assistant
Job description
THE EMPLOYER IS: BUILDING BLOCKS DAY NURSERY (NI) LTD The Nursery Room Assistant will support with the day-to-day care, supervision and play-based learning of children. This is a newly created JobStart Scheme position within a day nursery setting. As part of this role, the participant will be supported to undertake a Level 2 Childcare qualification, which will be provided within the role, alongside structured on-the-job training. There may be opportunities for progression or continued employment subject to performance and business needs.
Responsibilities
- Supporting nursery staff in the delivery of play-based learning activities, including themed play and creative activities.
- Assisting with the daily routine of the nursery room, including transitions, mealtimes, and tidy-up times.
- Helping to set up, supervise, and tidy play areas and activities.
- Supporting children during indoor and outdoor play, ensuring appropriate supervision at all times.
- Assisting with the settling-in of new children, helping them feel safe, supported, and included.
- Supporting basic care routines, encouraging independence and good hygiene in line with nursery policies.
- Observing children's engagement and feeding back to other staff where appropriate.
- Following all safeguarding, health and safety, and childcare policies and procedures.
- Undertaking and working towards a Level 2 Childcare qualification as part of the role.
- Participating in induction, training, mentoring, and employability skills development under the JobStart Scheme.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Willingness to learn and develop skills in childcare.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
- Genuine interest in working with children.
Desirable Skills
- Interest in pursuing a career in childcare or early years.
- Previous experience (paid or voluntary) working with children.
- Basic understanding of play-based learning.
- Caring, patient, and supportive manner.
- Willingness to progress within the early years sector.
- Reliable, punctual, and responsible approach to work.
