Job description
The post holder will be responsible for maintaining a high quality intravenous antimicrobial therapy service within the Southern Health and Social Care Trust as well as regionally as part of the Managed Clinical Network for Unscheduled Care. The post holder will be expected to promote a consistent operational approach and governance framework and will contribute to influencing all aspects of care and management of patients receiving Intravenous antimicrobial Therapy. The post holder will be expected to maintain arrangements and systems to prevent inappropriate hospital admissions and to ensure early discharge from hospital for patients receiving intravenous and oral antimicrobial therapy. The post holder will be expected to ensure that policies and procedures are in place to support staff in primary/community care setting regarding intravenous antimicrobial therapy. This post holder will facilitate working across professional and organisational boundaries through an operational and governance framework that ensures the safe and appropriate transfer of patients requiring intravenous antimicrobial therapy in the community. The post holder will promote the delivery of high quality, clinically effective care through the identification of training needs, sourcing appropriate education to meet the needs of relevant staff, audit, research and implementation of regional and national guidelines including the development of local policies and procedures as required to implement services. The post holder will be expected to work with others to ensure that appropriate data collection systems are in place to enable monitoring and evaluation of the service.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate the delivery of a framework for high quality intravenous nursing service for patients requiring intravenous antimicrobial therapy in the community.
- Take a lead role in the delivery of consistent operational policies and procedures for the administration of IV or oral antimicrobial therapies in community settings.
- Provide specialist expert advice regarding intravenous or oral antimicrobial therapy and act as a resource to practitioners and managers.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Five years post registration experience including 2 years at Band 6 or above.
- Registered Adult Nurse, Part 1 of current NMC Register.
