Bus Yard Worker / Mechanic Helper
Job description
THE EMPLOYER IS: INVER COACHES LTD As a Bus Yard Worker / Mechanic Helper, you will assist the mechanic with preventative and breakdown maintenance tasks for coaches to ensure a high standard of reliability for the fleet. Along with this you will keep the coaches clean to provide a high standard of customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for working safely under the direction of the mechanic.
- Clean buses, including interior and exterior washing.
- Check fluid levels.
- Perform basic safety checks (lights, mirrors, tyres, visible leaks) and report issues, damage, or concerns to the mechanic.
- Maintain cleanliness of the yard and work areas.
- Assist mechanics with routine maintenance and repairs.
- Perform basic maintenance support tasks under supervision.
- Follow safety rules when working around heavy vehicles and equipment.
- Help document maintenance work as directed.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Basic mechanical knowledge and willingness to learn vehicle systems.
- Ability to use hand tools and basic shop equipment safely.
- Understanding of safety procedures around heavy vehicles and machinery.
- Physical ability to perform manual labour (lifting, bending, standing for extended periods).
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Time management and ability to complete tasks efficiently.
- Teamwork and communication skills to work with mechanic and drivers.
- Basic record-keeping skills.
Desirable Skills
- Previous experience of mechanical tasks.
