THE EMPLOYER IS: BARRETT WHOLESALE LTD We are seeking a friendly, reliable and motivated Retail Assistant to join our lighting shop in Omagh. The role involves delivering excellent customer service, assisting customers in choosing suitable interior lighting and occasional furniture to match their ideas, and supporting the day-to-day operation of the shop. The successful candidate will be confident speaking with customers both in store and over the phone, have a good eye for design, and be willing to learn detailed product knowledge in order to provide accurate and helpful advice. The role also includes assisting with stock deliveries, processing online orders, maintaining a clean and welcoming shop environment, and supporting the business with social media marketing activity. This is a varied role suited to someone who enjoys working with customers, supporting online and in-store sales, and contributing to the promotion of the business through social media platforms. We are a long-established family-run business with over 50 years’ experience serving the local community in Omagh. We can offer flexible working hours for the right candidate, and are happy to discuss hours to suit individual circumstances. This role would suit someone looking to join a friendly, supportive small team in a well-established local retail business.

Responsibilities

  • Providing a high standard of customer service to all customers in store.
  • Greeting customers and discussing their lighting ideas and requirements.
  • Advising customers on suitable interior light fittings and occasional furniture.
  • Developing and maintaining strong product knowledge.
  • Answering telephone calls and dealing with customer enquiries.
  • Processing online sales, including administration and order distribution.
  • Preparing and packing online orders for dispatch.
  • Receiving, checking and organising deliveries and new stock arrivals.
  • Pricing, displaying and merchandising products on the shop floor.
  • Creating and assisting with social media content to promote products, offers and the shop.
  • Supporting basic social media marketing activity, including posting product photos and updates and engaging with customer enquiries received through social platforms.
  • Keeping the shop floor clean, tidy and well presented, including dusting and hoovering.
  • Supporting the general day-to-day running of the shop and completing ad-hoc duties as required.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Strong communication skills, both in person and over the phone.
  • A willingness to learn and develop product knowledge.
  • Confidence in speaking with customers and understanding their needs.
  • Basic computer and admin skills, including handling online orders.
  • An interest in interiors, lighting and design.

Desirable Skills

  • Confidence using social media platforms (such as Facebook and Instagram) for business purposes and responding to customer messages.
  • Basic computer and digital skills, including using online order systems, email and simple admin tasks.
  • Previous retail or customer-facing experience (preferred but not essential).
