THE EMPLOYER IS: COMMUNITY SPORTS NETWORK The Sport4Development Coach will support the delivery of Sport for Development programmes that aim to develop people and communities through sport, contributing to a safe, shared, and healthy future across Northern Ireland. The role aligns with Community Sports Network’s vision of creating an Active, Empowered and Connected society. Working under the guidance of senior staff, the postholder will assist with the delivery of inclusive sport and physical activity sessions in community, education, and sport settings. Responsibilities include supporting session preparation, engaging participants, adapting activities to meet different needs, and following health and safety and safeguarding procedures at all times. The role will also involve assisting with basic record-keeping, supporting partnership working, and representing the organisation professionally during programme delivery. This is a 25-hour per week role, with hours scheduled around programme delivery needs and will include evening and weekend work. Training and ongoing support will be provided throughout the placement.

Responsibilities

  • To assist the delivery of Sport for Development programmes as agreed by CSN.
  • To monitor the Sport for Development programmes in accordance with CSN guidelines and protocols, recording all relevant information.
  • Ability to create and implement a session plan to suit the needs of the groups or individual participants.
  • Ability to perform and record a risk assessment prior to session delivery.
  • To promote good working partnerships between all partner agencies.
  • To undertake personal development training as required.
  • Any other duties in pursuit of the overall objectives of the Sport for Development programmes as identified by CSN.
  • To undertake any other duties related to the work of CSN appropriate to the post as may be assigned.
  • To assist in the organisation and promotion of sport and recreational activities and distribute relevant publicity materials.
  • To comply with and actively promote CSN policies and procedures on all aspects of Equal Opportunities.

  • To comply with and actively promote CSN policies and procedures with regards to working with children and vulnerable adults.
  • Respond to general enquiries with regards to the programme.
  • Maintain knowledge of CSN and other partner agencies programmes.
  • Represent CSN at events as and when required.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Ability to communicate clearly and positively with children, young people, and adults in group settings.
  • Basic ability to support the delivery of sport and physical activity sessions under supervision.
  • Willingness and ability to plan and adapt activities to meet the needs of different participants.
  • Awareness of the importance of health & safety, safeguarding, and appropriate behaviour when working with children and vulnerable groups.
  • Ability to follow instructions, policies, and procedures, including risk assessments and reporting requirements.
  • Basic organisational skills, including timekeeping and preparation for sessions.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and support colleagues, partners, and volunteers.
  • Willingness to engage with participants using a flexible, inclusive, and encouraging approach.
  • Ability to record basic information accurately, including attendance and session feedback.
  • Willingness to learn, undertake training, and develop skills throughout the JobStart placement.

Desirable Skills

  • Previous experience (paid or voluntary) supporting sport, physical activity, coaching, youth, or community programmes.
  • A basic coaching qualification in any sport (e.g. introductory or Level 1), or willingness to work towards a coaching qualification during the placement.
  • Experience of assisting with the delivery of sport or physical activity sessions in community, education, or club settings.
  • An interest in developing coaching skills and progressing within sport or community development roles.
  • Awareness of safeguarding and health & safety practices in a coaching environment (training can be provided).
  • Ability to support coaches and session leads under guidance and supervision.
  • Confidence engaging participants and supporting inclusive, enjoyable sessions.
  • Basic IT skills for recording attendance, session information, or feedback.
  • Willingness to work occasional evenings or weekends to support programme delivery.
  • Motivation to undertake further training, qualifications, or progression opportunities during or after the JobStart placement.
