THE EMPLOYER IS: ULSTER WILDLIFE Ulster Wildlife is Northern Ireland’s largest local nature conservation charity. We are seeking a Marketing & Comms Assistant who will work within the Fundraising and Communications team. The person appointed will support our fundraising, marketing and communications function helping the charity to raise its profile, engage with its members, raise funds and influence key audiences. The appointee will assist the team on a range of marketing activities from delivering fundraising campaigns and managing donor data to creating social media content and undertaking research. Training to build on existing skills will be provided to enable the post holder to use tools including: Content Management System (Drupal website), Contact Relationship Management (Hubspot), email marketing (Mailchimp & Marketing Hub), Meta Business Suite, Social Media Management platform (Loomly), Design Software (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Capcut), Events Management Software (Eventbrite, Humanitix), Google Analytics and other surveying and reporting tools. Training will be on-the-job and via online learning. While every member of staff has their own specific tasks and duties to perform on a day to day basis, there are also a number of additional areas of work that you will be expected to take part in for the overall development and delivery of the organisation’s aims. No job description can cover every issue which may arise and subsequently the post-holder may be expected to carry out other duties broadly consistent with those itemised above.
Responsibilities
- Undertaking daily administrative tasks to support the Fundraising & Communications team.
- Supporting fundraising campaigns through donor data entry work, conducting research and supporting the team on the implementation of online and offline fundraising campaigns.
- Learn and utilise the digital marketing tools Ulster Wildlife employs for effective communications and fundraising - including website, Hubspot, Mailchimp, Loomly, Adobe CS, Eventbrite and any new tools Ulster Wildlife employs.
- Under guidance develop multimedia content that inspires and engages, including blogs, posts, video and articles.
- Be responsible for timely scheduling and updating of content on our social media channels and website.
- Assist with the development, administration and review of events (online & in-person) and support public and member activities.
- With supervision, create marketing literature (brochures, press releases, flyers, emails) to engage with our supporters and potential supporters.
- Monitor and manage feedback; survey and undertake other market research as required.
- Adhere to the policies and practices of Ulster Wildlife at all times and respect the policies and practices of project partners.
- Play an active role in fundraising for the project and for Ulster Wildlife e.g. through promoting membership.
- Identify and implement Learning & Development processes.
- Co-operate with and support volunteers and where appropriate supervise them.
- Participate in staff meetings.
- Ensure that contact with others is of a style and quality consistent with Ulster Wildlife’s ethos.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Basic experience of using digital marketing tools is ideal and experience of using a range of social media channels is required.
- Experience in content creation, including image editing, photos, video, graphics, posts and copy writing is required but will be developed in the role.
- A high level of spoken and especially written English is required, as are great communication skills including the ability and willingness to engage with a wide range of people.
- Good digital & IT skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office packages.
- A willingness and desire to learn new skills, welcome supervision and advice.
- Enjoy working as part of a small team, but also on own initiative without direct supervision.
- Demonstrable ability to multi-task and work to often reactive deadlines.
- An interest in nature, conservation and wildlife.
Desirable Skills
- Knowledge of publishing platforms and website content management systems is preferable but the role will help you develop these skills through practical application and training.
- Experience of working or volunteering in the Marketing, PR, Fundraising or Communications sectors, gained within the last 2 years.
- Good understanding of marketing and communications principals.
- Well organised with a supporter-orientated approach.
