THE EMPLOYER IS: CROSSFIRE TRUST As a Support Worker, you’ll help to meet service user needs on a daily basis. From facilitating participation initiatives to working with the wider team including registered volunteers, to discuss what’s best for the service user, you’ll help to change the lives of our clients. As a Support Worker you contribute to ensuring effective and consistent best practice standards are followed. This will include some weekend working. You will help ensure the well-being of clients’ programs which promotes personal development. A key component of this job is to assist clients in their physical, social, emotional and daily life skills development which allows them to contribute positively to the community. Our services provision includes crisis intervention, behaviour management, and life skills training, whether on a one-to-one basis or in a group environment. You would be expected to assist with planning, developing and implementing recreational, social and/or educational activities for clients served by the organisation. We would expect the support worker to strive to create a fun and enjoyable atmosphere and to encourage client participation in programs. We are looking for an individual who is passionate, committed, and enthusiastic to join our support team to help make a positive difference to the lives of people affected by homelessness. You will have experience of working with marginalised, disadvantaged, and disenfranchised people with multiple and complex needs. Being able to positively engage with our clients, you will understand homelessness, housing-related support, and the needs of homeless people. You must be able to work within the Crossfire Trust’s high tolerance, low threshold ethos to empower clients to make choices and decisions according to their needs. The role supports the smooth day-to-day running of emergency temporary accommodation at Crossfire Trust and is suitable for someone seeking an entry-level role within a community or housing environment. On the job training, and support will be provided.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to delivering personal, professional and social development programmes.
- Provide care interventions and daily living skills support as required.
- Assistance in managing medication/health regimes, accessing primary and secondary healthcare, liaising with medical professionals and assist with appointments.
- Assist with harm reduction interventions, stabilisation.
- Assist with complex and challenging behaviours including impacts of diagnosis, crisis and conflict management and ensuring residents adhere to accommodation agreements.
- Assist with the provision of emotional and motivational support, promoting positive mental health attitudes, self-esteem and self-respect.
- Process incoming enquiries and referrals to accommodation of service users.
- Provide support for our clients to liaise with landlords and facilitate when moving location.
- Ensure consistent handovers in accordance with Crossfire Trust policies.
- Contribute to accommodation management; ensuring routine maintenance is carried out in line with operational procedures and standards and our Health and Safety Policy.
- Ability to manage people with challenging behaviour and poor levels of engagement.
- Help with maintaining the grounds and garden at Crossfire Trust.
- Undertake any other duties relevant to the post.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- 2 years’ experience working in a social or caring setting.
- Record keeping, report writing.
- IT skills including Microsoft, Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook.
- Ability to manage challenging behaviour.
- Willingness to carry out housekeeping and practical tasks and contribute to the physical cleanliness and general condition of Crossfire Trust base and grounds including community garden.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
Desirable Skills
- Health & Safety training.
- Full driver’s licence.
- Passion for helping people, with the ability to work in an agile environment and to problem-solve.
- Experience of working with vulnerable and disadvantaged groups.
- Previous cleaning, housekeeping or caretaking experience.
- Experience in a community, voluntary or customer service setting.
- Understanding of and ability to adhere to Equality, Diversity & Inclusion, Health & Safety, Protection of Adults and Children at Risk, and other relevant policies specific to post.
- Passionate, committed, and enthusiastic about making a positive difference to the homeless and vulnerably housed.
- A satisfactory Enhanced Access NI check.
