The post holder will be expected to undertake all the duties associated with the Maternity Support Worker Band 4 Job Description. In addition, the post holder will have the skills, knowledge, and competence to provide a high quality, safe and effective service in order to care for women and babies within the obstetric perioperative area. Working under the supervision of a Registered Midwife, the post holder will practise a range of tasks and roles in the Maternity perioperative setting, delegated by the midwife providing direct care to women, their partners, and babies. Responsibilities will include undertaking surgical scrub technique and theatre duties supporting delegated aspects of operative procedures. Responsibilities

• Deal courteously with women, relatives, visitors, chaplains and others with whom they come in to contact in the course of their duties.
• Communicate effectively with women and others taking in to account their clinical conditions and differing levels of ability to understand.
• Observe and report any changes in the women’s physical and emotional condition or behaviour to midwifery staff.
• Ensure any instructions regarding women and baby’s treatment and diet are carried out and recorded as directed.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Successful completion of Band 3 Regional Maternity Support Worker Programme.
• One year’s experience of working in a maternity setting as Band 3 Maternity Support Worker.
