NW CAM2 Technical Consultant - Engineering
Job description
The College is seeking applications for a Technical Consultant in Engineering as part of the PEACEPLUS North West Centre for Advanced Manufacturing 2 (NWCAM2), to be based at our Greystone campus for a fixed-term position until June 2029. The postholder will provide engineering and technical support for the delivery of Strand 2 of the PEACEPLUS NW CAM2 programme. Reporting to the NW CAM2 Engineering Research & Innovation Project Manager, the Technical Consultant will support the design, development, and implementation of practical engineering solutions for SMEs in the Health & Life Sciences sector. The role will focus on applied engineering design, prototyping, and technical problem-solving, ensuring that innovative concepts are translated into high quality, deliverable outcomes within agreed project timelines. The postholder will offer targeted support in innovation, technology adoption, and sustainability, helping SMEs to embed advanced manufacturing processes, low carbon solutions, and research outputs into practice. They will also work collaboratively with academic partners and industry stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of measurable improvements in productivity, environmental performance, and competitiveness. North West Centre for Advanced Manufacturing 2 (NWCAM2) is supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB).
Responsibilities
- Contribute to the delivery of 20 SME-focused implementation projects in the Health & Life Sciences sector, ensuring agreed outputs are achieved within programme timescales
- Provide tailored support to SMEs in adopting new technologies, sustainable manufacturing processes, and low-carbon practices
- Collaborate with SMEs and academic partners (UU, ATU, TCD, IMR) to ensure maximum knowledge transfer
- Ensure accurate financial tracking and documentation is maintained to support internal and external reporting requirements
- Promote a culture of innovation in support services through reviewing processes, systems and ways of working to ensure efficient and effective service delivery
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Have at least a Level 6 qualification in the area of Product Design, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or closely related discipline
- Have at least 1 years industrial experience working as a Mechanical Design Engineer, Product Designer, or similar role
- Have experience of using an industry standard 3D CAD package in an industrial role
- Have current driving licence and access to a car Applicants with a disability who have been prevented from obtaining a driving licence due to their disability (as defined by the DDA 1995) are eligible to apply
Desirable Skills
- Have experience of using additive and/or subtractive prototyping technologies such as 3D Printers and/or CNC Milling Machines
- Have industrial experience within the health & life sciences, medical devices, or regulated manufacturing sectors
