Preschool Leader


Job description

The leader is responsible for the overall safety and wellbeing of the children and staff. The leader is responsible for calling regular meetings with staff and planning meetings so that staff are fully aware of their roles and the progression of the pre-school curriculum throughout the year. The leader is responsible (as well as the Manager) for the support and supervision of staff on a day-to-day basis In consultation with the staff at meetings, the leader should ensure that planning and preparation is carried out and that the activities offered throughout the session allow the children to experience the full breadth of the curriculum as laid down in Department of Education Guidance for Pre-school Education

Responsibilities

  • Undertake training relevant to the post, as directed by the Manager.
  • Ensuring safety and well being of children
  • Providing caring and stimulating environment of children
  • Supervising staff on daily basis. Calling and sharing information at staff meeting and supervising students and volunteers attached to the playgroup
  • Keeping up to date records of attendance, occupancy sheets, risk assessments, accident books, group activities, petty cash request book and records required by Social services and Department of Education and confidential information.
  • Actively involve parents through variety of methods e.g. newsletter
  • Keep parents up to date on child’s progress, parents meetings etc.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Minimum qualification of Level 3 in Childcare, Education or equivalent (or working towards).
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Commitment to equality, inclusion and safeguarding of pupils.
  • Demonstrable experience of working with or supporting children in an educational setting specifically those with special education needs.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Competence in the use of ICT including Microsoft Word.

Desirable Skills

  • Level 5 qualification in supporting teaching and learning in schools (or equivalent).
  • Experience in delivering structured learning programmes or interventions.
  • Experience working with children with a range of special education needs (e.g. autism, ADHD, speech, language difficulties etc).
  • Level 3 qualification in Childcare.
  • Training in relevant areas such as Makaton, Team-Teach, PECS or First Aid. Ability to adapt resources and learning approaches to meet individual pupil needs.
