THE EMPLOYER IS: THE RESOURCE CENTRE DERRY Support the smooth running of the kitchen and domestic areas by maintaining high standards of cleanliness, assisting with food preparation, and ensuring a safe and hygienic environment for staff and customers/service users. This job description reflects the general duties of the job but is not a detailed description of all duties which may be inherent to the position. The Resource Centre Derry may assign reasonably related additional duties to individual employees consistent with policy and agreements.

Responsibilities

  • Cleaning: Washing dishes, cutlery, pots, pans, and other kitchen equipment as and when required.
  • Maintaining Hygiene: Sanitising food preparation areas, work surfaces, and floors.
  • Domestic Duties - Clean dining areas, tables, and chairs before and after service. Assist with laundry tasks such as washing, drying, and folding linens (if required). Maintain cleanliness in communal areas associated with the kitchen.
  • General Responsibilities - Restock supplies such as condiments, cutlery, and cleaning materials. Report maintenance or safety issues promptly. Work effectively with the team, supporting colleagues during busy periods. Maintain a positive attitude.
  • Assist with basic food preparation such as washing, peeling, and chopping ingredients. Prepare simple food items under supervision (e.g., sandwiches, salads, beverages). Assist in serving meals or refreshments where required.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Willing and able to help people who require assistance.
  • Ability to follow instructions well.
  • Understands and supports the aims of the organisation.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Flexibility to undertake the various requirements of the role.
  • Demonstrates commitment (punctual and attends agreed hours).

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of HACCP.
  • Previous Café, Kitchen Porter or restaurant experience.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Basic qualification in Food Hygiene.
