Youth Support Worker


Job description

THE EMPLOYER IS: INCLUDE YOUTH To work alongside the youth work staff to provide a youth support role to young people on Include Youth programmes.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with programme delivery across a number of project areas to gain a full understanding of all work areas and young people involved.
  • Assisting with delivering group work/ individual work in areas such as employability and personal development under supervision.
  • Assisting with development of action plans for young people to plan steps and goals.
  • Ensuring all work is underpinned by youth work values and ensure that the young people are at the centre of all decisions.
  • Attend regular training as required.
  • Engage and support the communication strategy within Include Youth.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • An ability to travel independently throughout NI and ROI and on occasion UK or further afield.
  • Able to work outside normal hours when required.

Desirable Skills

  • 2 years experience working or volunteering with disadvantaged or vulnerable young people.
  • 1 year experience in the delivery of group work programmes.
  • Hold an accredited youth work qualification at level 2 or above (or willing to work towards one).
  • Good written and oral communications skills.
  • An ability to engage with vulnerable young people.
  • Experience and or knowledge of being a ‘NEET’ young person or facing similar barriers in the past.
  • Knowledge of issues affecting disadvantaged and vulnerable young people.
  • Knowledge of programmes or interventions to assist young people to overcome personal barriers.
  • Commitment to and experience of user involvement in the planning and delivery of services.
  • Ability to manage own time effectively.
  • Ability to manage change effectively.
