THE EMPLOYER IS: RG FITNESS The Trainee Gym Operations Assistant & Personal Trainer supports the daily running of the fitness facility while developing the practical skills and industry knowledge required for a long-term career in gym operations and personal training. The role combines operational responsibilities with the delivery of high-quality personal training services. The postholder will contribute to maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming gym environment, ensuring members receive excellent customer service at all times. In addition, they will design and deliver structured personal training sessions, supporting members in achieving their individual health and fitness goals. The role requires a proactive, professional individual who can balance operational duties while demonstrating a strong commitment to continuous professional development. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and early mornings in line with business needs. The postholder must comply with all company policies, including health and safety, safeguarding, and data protection procedures. Achievement of agreed performance targets, including personal training revenue and member satisfaction standards, will form part of ongoing performance review.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the day-to-day operations of the gym, including opening and closing procedures, equipment checks, cleanliness standards, and general facility maintenance.
- Ensure all areas remain safe, organised, and compliant with health and safety regulations.
- Provide excellent customer service by welcoming members, responding to enquiries, conducting inductions, and supporting member engagement activities.
- Build positive relationships with members to encourage retention and satisfaction.
- Conduct consultations, set fitness goals, and design tailored training programmes. Deliver one-to-one and small group training sessions, monitor client progress, and adapt programmes where necessary to ensure results.
- Actively promote and sell personal training packages and contribute to achieving agreed revenue targets.
- Accurate record keeping and adherence to company policies, including data protection and health and safety procedures.
- Participate in ongoing training, team meetings, and professional development opportunities to maintain industry knowledge and improve service delivery.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Demonstrate a genuine passion for health and fitness, with a strong desire to build a career within the industry.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, with the ability to motivate, engage, and build rapport with a diverse membership base.
- Professional in presentation and conduct.
- A strong work ethic and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team are required.
- Recognised Level 2 Gym Instructor qualification (or willingness to work towards it) is essential.
- Basic IT skills and a clear understanding of health and safety responsibilities within a gym environment.
Desirable Skills
- Level 3 Personal Training qualification, or evidence of working towards one, would be advantageous.
- Previous experience delivering personal training sessions or working within a fitness environment is desirable.
- First Aid certification and knowledge of client assessment techniques would strengthen an application.
- Experience in sales, customer retention, or promoting fitness services would also be beneficial.
- An understanding of programme design, client progression tracking, and member engagement strategies would further support success in the role.
