Grounds Assistant
Job description
THE EMPLOYER IS: BEECH HILL COUNTRY HOUSE HOTEL LTD The Grounds Assistant supports the Head Gardener in maintaining and enhancing the grounds of Beech Hill Country House to ensure they are safe, well-presented, and maintained to a high standard befitting an exclusive wedding venue. This is a practical, hands-on role involving garden maintenance, general labouring duties, and seasonal outdoor work.
Responsibilities
- Grounds & Garden Maintenance - Assist the Head Gardener in daily preparation and maintenance of the estate grounds.
- Support the maintenance and improvement of produce within the Walled Garden.
- Cut grass in smaller areas using a lawnmower.
- Strim undergrowth and maintain borders and edges.
- Trim low-level tree branches and remove ivy from trees where required.
- Help maintain planted areas, shrubs, and pathways to a high presentation standard.
- General Grounds Duties - Assist with resurfacing and maintaining walkways and outdoor areas.
- Carry out general labouring and outdoor maintenance duties as required.
- Support seasonal tasks including planting, pruning, leaf clearance, and garden preparation.
- Ensure tools and equipment are used safely and stored correctly after use.
- Communicate effectively with housekeeping, front office, and management to minimise guest disruption.
- Respond professionally to maintenance requests raised by staff or guests.
- Health & Safety - Follow health and safety procedures at all times.
- Use groundskeeping tools and machinery safely and responsibly.
- Identify hazards and report maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Practical, hands-on approach to outdoor work.
- Able to work in all weather conditions.
- Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
- Good attention to detail.
Desirable Skills
- Previous gardening or grounds maintenance experience.
- Experience using lawnmowers, strimmers, or basic landscaping tools.

The Employer is: BEECH HILL COUNTRY HOUSE HOTEL LTD JobStart Opportunity - Working Hours Information. Standard Hours: up to 25 hours per week. Flexible/Reduced Hours: May be available upon approval by a Work Coach. Additional Hours: The employer may offer extra hours depending on availability.
