THE EMPLOYER IS: MORNINGTON COMMUNITY PROJECT The Family Support Assistant will be a key member of our Nurturing Families Programme which supports families through Parenting and Wellbeing Courses, one-to-one support and Drop-in provision. The Family Support Assistant will provide practical and emotional support to children, young people and families within the local community to promote wellbeing, resilience and positive family relationships. Duties include supporting the delivery of family-based programmes and activities, offering one-to-one and group support under the guidance of senior staff, signposting families to appropriate services, and assisting with outreach and engagement. The post holder will work closely with families and community partners; maintain appropriate records, and contribute to a safe, inclusive and supportive environment in line with safeguarding and organisational policies. This role will strengthen early intervention provision, improve outcomes for families, and create a meaningful employment pathway within the community sector.

Responsibilities

  • To work with the team to provide a warm safe welcoming space in Mornington.
  • To ensure everyone regardless of background etc is treated with courtesy and respect.
  • To organise and set up rooms for Nurturing Programme activity.
  • To support the Nurturing Coordinator in delivering Parenting and Nurturing Courses.
  • To support the Nurturing Coordinator in delivering weekly drop-in provision.
  • To represent the Nurturing Programme at events as necessary.
  • To participate in meetings and supervision and to access relevant training as required.
  • To comply with Mornington Community Projects policies and procedures.
  • To manage all relevant paperwork, ensuring confidentiality at all times.
  • To process referrals where appropriate.
  • Any other duties as may be reasonably required to support the operation and development of Mornington Community Project’s Nurturing service.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Effective Communication: Clearly explaining services and liaising with professionals and families, while maintaining confidentiality.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Good productivity and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work in a proactive and positive way to promote Mornington and its services.
  • Ability to take direction and work on your own initiative.
  • A working knowledge of good practice in child protection, safeguarding, data protection and confidentiality.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the issues and concerns affecting families living in areas of deprivation.
  • Empathy with families experiencing difficulties to build trust and support.
  • Cultural Awareness: Respecting diverse backgrounds and tailoring support accordingly.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in same or similar role.
  • Fire Safety training.
  • Food Hygiene level 2.
  • First Aid training.
  • Parenting Qualification.
  • Community Work Qualification.
  • Facilitation Skills.
  • Child Protection Training.
  • First Aid.

The Employer is: MORNINGTON COMMUNITY PROJECT JobStart Opportunity - Working Hours Information. Standard Hours: up to 25 hours per week. Flexible/Reduced Hours: May be available upon approval by a Work Coach. Additional Hours: The employer may offer extra hours depending on availability.
