Job description
THE EMPLOYER IS: CROSSKENNAN LANE ANIMAL SANCTUARY Location: Crosskennan Lane Animal Sanctuary, Antrim Working with small animals at Crosskennan you will be primarily caring for the cats in the sanctuary and making their stay with us as happy, healthy, and as stress-free as possible. Nearly all our rescue cats typically have experienced some degree of trauma prior to arrival. Simply moving is stressful for cats, but many of our charges are also missing people they loved, have come to us neglected, or even as victims of cruelty. For this reason, you will need to follow strict procedures and protocols which requires an investment on our part in training and supervision. Small animal workers assist with ensuring the health and wellbeing of cats and kittens in our care.
Responsibilities
- Daily Care: Feeding, providing fresh water, and thoroughly cleaning litter boxes and living areas.
- Health Monitoring: Observing for changes in behaviour, appetite, or physical condition (e.g., respiratory issues) and reporting to supervisors or owners.
- Hygiene & Maintenance: Sanitizing, grooming, and ensuring a clean environment.
- Socialization & Enrichment: Playing with, petting, and providing mental stimulation to ensure emotional well-being.
- Medical Care: Administering medication as prescribed.
- Documentation: Keeping records of care, feeding, and behaviour.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Teamwork & Collaboration skills - To work together as a team throughout the day to ensure the yard runs properly but they also have to be able to work with outside agents as well, such as, vets, farriers, dentists, suppliers and contractors.
- Problem-Solving skills - Working with animals in never without its risk. You must be able to assess any situation and take appropriate action.
Desirable Skills
- While previous experience working with cats or other small animals is preferable, it is not essential.
