Band 7 Infant Feeding Lead
Job description
The post holder will work in partnership with the staff and management of the Belfast Health and Social Care Trust Maternity Service, collaborating with teams to enhance breastfeeding standards, increase breastfeeding rates and ensure the achievement and maintenance of UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) accreditation across Maternity Services. The post holder will also promote and support breastfeeding Trust wide, in collaboration with voluntary and community organisations. Responsibilities
- Take the lead and oversee the implementation of best practice standards for breastfeeding in the Maternity Service, through promotion, support and monitoring of breastfeeding in line with the UNICEF UK Baby Friendly Initiative (BFI) Standards.
- Develop and monitor all relevant policies relevant to Breastfeeding and Infant feeding support in line with the UNICEF UK BFI.
- Prepare reports to provide evidence of achievements against agreed objectives, breastfeeding statistics and highlight progress and challenges.
- Provide professional and clinical leadership in all issues related to infant feeding supporting staff to make the changes required to implement, achieve and maintain the UNICEF UK BFI best practice standards.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Registered Midwife on the live NMC Register.
- Have 5 years post-registration experience which must include a minimum of 3 years at Band 6.
- Evidence of continuing Post Registration education.
- Provide evidence of attendance at UNICEF UK Baby Friendly Initiative 2 day breastfeeding Training of equivalent.
- Have knowledge for breastfeeding issues and demonstrate expertise in breast feeding management and experience in the promotion and support of breastfeeding initiatives.
- Hold a current full driving licence valid in the UK with access to a car - ‘Where disability prohibits driving, this criteria will be waived if the applicant is able to organise suitable alternative arrangements’.
Desirable Skills
- A teaching/instructor qualification.
- Attained or be willing to undertake additional education and training in relation to Infant feeding such as the International Board Certificate of lactation Consultants.
- Able to evaluate research and understand a range of approaches in getting research findings into practice.
