Down Royal Racecourse is one of Northern Ireland’s premier sporting venues. Down Royal is now seeking to recruit a full-time Groundsperson to join the team and assist in the provision of a safe and excellent racing surface and facilities for its 14 race meetings (jumps & flat). Reporting to the Head Groundsman. Full time. Immediate start.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the preparation of fences, hurdles, rails and buildings to meet the highest standards
• Assist in the preparation and restoration of the racing surface - grass cutting, replacement of divots, etc;
• Use a wide range of agricultural machinery, tools and equipment;
• Assist in the preparation of fences, hurdles, rails and buildings to meet the highest standards;
• Safe use of fertilisers and weed control substances;
• Preparation of stables, parade ring and general grounds.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Knowledge of soil and grass management, etc;
• Ability to operate a range of agricultural machinery in a safe manner;
• Capability to perform routine maintenance of agricultural equipment an advantage;
• Ability to use chemicals in a safe manner;
• Good knowledge of the racing industry;
• Strong desire to contribute, learn and grow with an ambitious team;
• Horse racing is a 7-day a week rain, hail or shine business and the ideal candidate must be available to work weekends
