Band 7 Governance Midwife


Job description

This is a role focused on overseeing clinical governance, risk management, and patient safety processes. Key duties include, monitoring standards, managing patient safety incidents, promoting a just culture for learning from events, and ensuring care is evidence-based and compliant with regional and national guidelines. The post holder will be responsible for co-ordinating the clinical risk review system including all aspects of management of the Datix reporting system. The post holder will have a supporting role for the management of quality and governance for Maternity and Neonatal Services in conjunction with the Service Manager, Assistant Service Managers and Collective Leadership Team (CLT). Responsibilities

  • Maintain the information and clinical and social care governance reporting systems for the Maternity and Neonatal services.
  • Monitor and triage of patient safety incidents submitted to Datix for Maternity and Neonatal Services.
  • Assign patient safety incidents submitted to Datix to relevant clinical and operational leads within Maternity and Neonatal Services.
  • Ensure relevant data fields have been completed accurately, reflect the patient safety event and harm validation is consistent to support wider reporting.
  • Engage with ward managers regarding the review of patient safety incidents submitted to Datix to ensure timely reviews and consistency in harm validation.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Have a Midwifery Degree and 3 years post-registration experience, within a midwifery setting, as a Band 6 midwife on the Nursing and Midwifery (NMC) register Or
  • Have 2 years post-registration experience within a midwifery setting, as a Band 6 midwife on the NMC register, and have obtained a postgraduate diploma or equivalent qualification. Or
  • Have 5 years post-registration experience, which must include a minimum of 3 years as a Band 6 midwife on the NMC register, within a midwifery setting.
  • Hold a current full driving licence valid in UK with access to a car on appointment. ‘This criteria will be waived in the case of an applicant whose disability prohibits driving but who is able to organise suitable alternative arrangements.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience of conducting and managing audit or research projects.
  • Training in quality improvement methodology.
