Job description

The post holder will fulfil the role of senior nurse on MPH site out of hours; which will include night duty, bank holiday and week end cover. The post holder will also be required to provide staff management, supervision, support and teaching when necessary and act as a member of the cardiac arrest team and an initial responder for the major incident team. Responsibilities

• Support ward staff within MPH during each span of duty.
• Co-ordinate the actions required to ensure timely transfers as agreed during periods of escalation.
• In partnership with the sisters/charge nurse, plan the use of physical resources to ensure effective patient flow in order to facilitate timely admissions and discharges out of hours.
• Act as a member of the cardiac arrest team and an initial responder for major incidents on MPH site.
• Challenge as appropriate and monitoring decisions to support admission of patients when patient safety may be compromised for all clinical areas on the MPH site.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Be a Registered Nurse on Part 1 (Adult) of the live NMC Register.
• Have 5 years’ post-registration experience as a Band 5 nurse (or above) including 3 years’ in an acute adult setting.
• Hold valid ILS & PILS certificate or willingness to undertake within 3 months
• Provide evidence of continuous personal and professional development.
• Have sound knowledge of changing trends within health and social care.

Desirable Skills

• Hold valid ILS & PILS certificate.
• Basic computer skills and Encompass training including Bed Manager Access.
