Job description

We are a leading steel stockholder supplying structural steel, plate, and associated products to the construction and engineering sectors across Northern Ireland. We are currently seeking a Steel Handler to join our warehouse team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe, efficient handling, movement, and storage of steel products within our yard and warehouse operations.

Responsibilities

• Load, unload, and move steel using overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment.
• Accurately select and prepare steel sections, plates, and profiles according to customer orders and cutting lists.
• Ensure stock is stored safely and logically within designated areas, maintaining yard and warehouse tidiness.
• Follow all company safety policies and procedures, including the use of PPE, load-securement, and manual handling best practices.
• Carry out pre-use checks and report defects or maintenance issues on cranes, forklifts, and lifting gear.
• Complete delivery notes, stock movement forms, and system entries accurately.
• Work closely with drivers, machine operators, and office staff to ensure smooth workflow and timely dispatch of orders.
• Inspect materials for damage, correct identification, and conformance to order specifications.
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment in accordance with company standards

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Previous experience handling steel or heavy materials in an industrial, warehouse, or fabrication environment.
• Good awareness of health and safety procedures.
• Ability to read and interpret basic job sheets.
• Capable of manual work in a busy yard environment.

Desirable Skills

• Experience in a steel stockholding or fabrication company.
• Slinger/Signaller training or experience working with lifting accessories.
• Competent in operating overhead cranes and/or counterbalance forklifts (certification desirable).
