HPB (Upper GI) Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist Band 7


Job description

The main purpose of the role is to work within the Upper GI multi-disciplinary team to ensure a seamless co-ordinated approach to person centred care, across the surgical and oncology pathway. The cancer CNS will act as the keyworker for patients with hepato-biliary and pancreatic malignancy as part of the HPB/ Upper GI team. They will work in a professional manner to co-ordinate and promote timely onward referrals to other professionals and agencies as appropriate. The post holder will have a primary focus on Hepta-Biliary and Pancreatic (HPB) cancer and will be expected to provide cross cover within the Upper GI Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) team (which includes oesophagus, stomach and duodenum). As an HPB Cancer CNS, the post holder will act as a specialist nursing resource within their scope of practice providing clinical expertise in care, advice and support within the specialist area of Hepta-Biliary and Pancreatic (HPB) cancer. The post holder will be expected to contribute to advancing the body of knowledge through education, research, and audit with regard to this patient group with emphasis on the Hepato-Biliary and Pancreatic service. The post holder will lead and/or participate in the development, implementation and monitoring of policies, procedures and protocols which meet national, regional and local requirements. As a core member of the multidisciplinary team, the post holder will proactively contribute and work with HPB colleagues in both BHSCT and NHSCT to advance the modernisation agenda of the whole Upper GI cancer services for patients and the development of the nursing service to achieve person centred care.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Registered on part 1 of the live NMC register.
  • Hold a Nursing Degree or first level degree in a health related subject
