Registered Nurse, Learning Disability Respite Unit
Job description
The postholder will be based in Woodlawn House Respite Unit which provides short breaks for adults with a learning disability who present with complex nursing needs or behavioural difficulties. The post holder will work as part of a team providing high-quality, person-centred nursing care and support to patients with varying health needs, ensuring their comfort and safety during their stay. The post holder will work closely with the patient, their parents/carers and families. The post holder will participate as part of a team to assess, plan, implement and evaluate all episodes of care. The post holder will provide personal care and support to patients as required. They will play an active role in developing individualised activity plans and facilitating recreational and therapeutic activities both in house and within the community to promote social interaction within the local community. The facility also has a unit vehicle to support patients on planned outings, the post holder will have access to this on shift. The post holder will be expected to take charge of the unit regularly in the absence of the Manager. The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision and may be required to demonstrate procedures to and supervise qualified and/or unqualified staff.

Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Currently a Registered Nurse Learning Disability, Registered Nurse Mental Health or Registered Nurse Adult, Level 1 on the Live NMC Register.
Desirable Skills
- Previous experience of working with people with a Learning Disability.
