Trainee People and Culture Assistant
Job description
THE EMPLOYER IS: HALDANE FISHER GROUP The Trainee People and Culture Assistant will support our HR team in managing our most important asset - our people. This role provides exposure to all aspects of the employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding through to maintaining employee records and supporting HR administration. The trainee will learn about employment law, HR best practices, and the systems and processes that support our workforce, while developing an understanding of how great people management contributes to business success. The successful candidate will receive a comprehensive induction along with on-the-job training, supported by regular supervision and mentoring from experienced team members. They will be trained in company systems, procedures, and policies, as well as in a range of digital marketing tools and platforms. Throughout the programme, they will develop key occupational skills relevant to the role and have opportunities to gain workplace qualifications and valuable practical experience. Upon successful completion of the programme, there may also be potential for permanent employment.
Responsibilities
- Maintaining accurate employee records in our HR system (HRIS), updating personal details and employment information, processing changes such as promotions or transfers, ensuring data is kept confidential and compliant.
- Assisting with job advertisements, screening CVs and applications, scheduling interviews and communicating with candidates, conducting pre-employment checks, preparing offer letters and contracts, and maintaining records.
- Preparing new starter documentation and welcome packs, coordinating induction schedules, arranging IT equipment and access, ensuring all pre-start paperwork is completed, and following up with new employees.
- Maintaining HR policy documents, ensuring employee handbooks are up to date, tracking mandatory training completion, managing absence records and sick leave documentation, and processing probation reviews.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Willingness to learn and develop new skills.
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team.
- Basic IT skills (ability to use computers, email, and learn new systems).
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently when required.
- Attention to detail and organisational skills.
Desirable Skills
- Relevant work experience.
- Previous office or administrative experience.
