Background: CALMS, an acronym for Community Action for Locally Managing Stress, was formed in Derry/Londonderry towards the end of 1994. It is a Company Limited by Guarantee and has achieved charitable status. CALMS’s focus is holistic and centres on helping individuals and organisations recognise, reduce and manage stress. Accordingly, it concentrates on services, programmes, activities and approaches that are educative, preventative and rehabilitative in nature. The objects of the charity are the preservation and protection of the health of the people in the North West of Ireland who suffer from stress generally, as well as those affected directly or indirectly by violence and to advance the education of the public in and about the causes of stress and its management within the community. Purpose of the Role: Overview: CALMS’s Information Officer will be responsible for managing, curating, and disseminating accurate and accessible information about mental health services, resources, and support options. This will include the coordination of social media, internal messaging, databases and websites/online information. You’ll ensure that service users, professionals, and the public have the knowledge they need to make informed decisions and access help when they need it. Critically, you will have a strong background and knowledge in GDPR and online confidentiality, as well as handling sensitive and personal data securely.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain up-to-date information resources, including leaflets, guides, web content, and directories
- Respond to public and professional enquiries via phone, email, and online platforms
- Ensure all information is accurate, inclusive, and aligned with current mental health guidance and legislation
- Collaborate with all Departments (Counselling, Complementary, Social Support and Welfare Rights) to gather insights and update materials based on evolving needs
- Support awareness campaigns and events by providing relevant content and materials
- Monitor trends and feedback to improve the accessibility and relevance of information
- Maintain databases and systems for tracking enquiries and resource usage
- Uphold confidentiality, safeguarding, and data protection standards
- To engage in CALMS team meetings and attend regular line management
- Any other relevant tasks as directed by the Project Manager.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- 5 GCSEs to include English and Maths
- Third Level or Equivalent Qualification in an IT-related discipline
- Must have 3 or more years' experience in an IT role
- Must have experience of GDPR
- Must have experience in managing personal and sensitive data securely
- Understanding of mental health and well-being
- Strong working knowledge of IT systems and skilled in Microsoft Excel, database management and social media
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to translate complex information into accessible formats
- Experience in an information, communications, or support role (mental health or charity sector desirable)
- Understanding of mental health issues and the importance of inclusive language
- Proficiency in digital tools and content management systems
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams
- Commitment to equality, diversity, and ethical information sharing
- Understand the importance of record keeping and confidentiality
- Ability to complete reports in a neat and timely manner
- Excellent communication skills
- An understanding of and commitment to multi-disciplinary working
- Excellent organisational and planning skills
