Senior Mechanical Engineer (SPTO) Construction Division
Job description
Construction Division is currently responsible for the delivery and provision of advice in relation to a diverse and exciting portfolio of major new building and civil engineering projects. Collectively these projects have a value in the region of £750m. The SPTO Mechanical Engineer plays a major role in ensuring that projects are delivered successfully and that mechanical services design quality and best value are achieved.
Responsibilities
- Manage consultants and evaluate their mechanical engineering submissions.
- Survey existing buildings throughout Northern Ireland, some of which may be in remote rural areas, and prepare condition and dilapidation reports.
- Procure contracts in accordance with the Public Contracts Regulations and Northern Ireland Public Procurement Policy.

Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- At least a second class BEng honours degree in Architectural Engineering (Building Services), Building Services Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
- Have at least 3 years’ post qualification experience in the design and on-site supervision of contractor installed mechanical engineering services in major new-build construction projects of at least £2m total construction value...
- ...OR refurbishment construction projects of at least £1m total value per annum.
- A current driving licence valid for driving in Northern Ireland and access to a vehicle to carry out the full duties of the post.
Desirable Skills
- Currently possess or be expected to possess by 31 July 2026, a Masters degree as listed on the engineering council database, having been accredited by one or more of the appropriate professional engineering institutions...
- ...OR Hold current full chartered membership of one of the appropriate professional engineering institutions (e.g. CIBSE/Engineers Ireland/Energy Institute/IMechE)
