Job description

This post is for a 3 years Fixed Term Contract. The Parish Catechist will collaborate with the parish clergy, schools, and the parish pastoral council to develop, coordinate, and support catechetical and sacramental programmes. The role is dedicated to nurturing and deepening the faith of parishioners by fostering spiritual growth within the parish community. Utilising diocesan and local resources, the catechist will implement initiatives to inspire faith in those seeking belief and reignite faith in those who have lapsed in practice. Additionally, the Catechist will establish and develop chaplaincy initiatives at the Derry Campus of the University of Ulster.

Responsibilities

• Youth Faith Formation e.g. Develop, coordinate, and promote parish catechetical programmes.
• Adult Faith Formation e.g. Research and deliver catechetical programmes
• Working within the Chaplaincy of the University of Ulster, Derry Campus, to develop chaplaincy services and activities while integrating the sacramental and spiritual ministries of an ordained Chaplain.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Active participation in a Catholic parish community.
• A third-level qualification in a relevant field (e.g., education, theology, youth work, or community work).
• Experience in a leadership role within a youth setting (paid or voluntary).
• Proficiency in ICT.

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong organisational abilities and administrative competence.
• Capacity to work independently and take initiative.
• A flexible and adaptable approach to ministry.
• Proven leadership skills.
• Effective presentation and public speaking abilities.
