Job description

The Head of Community will provide dynamic and innovative leadership to drive the strategic direction and delivery of Community Services. Working in line with the Council’s Corporate Plan, the postholder will shape and implement service strategies, advise senior leaders on policy and service development, and lead a diverse portfolio that includes community development, externally funded programmes, and community facilities. This is a pivotal role responsible for delivering high performing, customer focused services, fostering strong internal and external partnerships, ensuring effective governance and resource management, and championing continuous improvement. The Head of Community will also play an active corporate leadership role, contributing to organisational development, community planning, and cross departmental initiatives that support the Council’s strategic objectives. Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Degree or equivalent in a relevant subject area or 5 years relevant experience as outlined in the essential criteria experience section.
  • 3 years’ relevant senior management experience with direct responsibility for at least three of the following areas:
  • Managing Externally funded programmes.
  • Managing good relations and culture programmes.
  • Developing and working with strategic partnerships to deliver on outcomes.
  • Managing a large multi functional team to achieve results.
  • Managing complex community development programmes.
  • Access to a form of transport to fulfil the duties of the post.

Desirable Skills

  • Additional relevant professional qualifications.
  • Current chartered membership of a relevant professional body.
